Firm Ground® Employability and Behaviour Transformation
Firm Ground® has already been approved through public-sector employability and skills procurement routes in Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Fife.
Finding the right employability programme carries pressure of its own.
You have budgets.
Responsibilities.
Outcomes.
Reputation.
And the fear of getting it wrong.
Sometimes you think about something so much your head feels heavy.
You have stared at the screen for so long your eyes feel like they are bulging.
Your brain feels like it is stuck in quicksand and you almost have to shake your head to pull yourself back out of it.
Then comes that sudden wave of heat.
What if I get this wrong?
What if this does not deliver?
What will people say?
Will I look incompetent?
You replay 300 different scenarios in your head.
What happens if I choose this?
What will they say if I do that?
You stay at work later than you intended.
Meanwhile, the dog needs walking, the Mrs or husband wants your attention, the kids are bending your melon and the bills and family dramas have not disappeared just because you have responsibility at work.
Some people smoke like chimneys.
Some drink like goldfish.
Some lie awake with racing thoughts at night because they simply cannot switch off.
Then you snap at the kids.
Wish you had not.
Now you are carrying guilt as well.
And all of that is happening before you even start carrying the responsibility of making decisions that affect other people's lives.
Even Capable People Behave Differently Under Pressure
Sustained pressure can show up in behaviour.
Snapping.
Short temper.
Drinking.
Withdrawal.
Zoning out.
Smoking.
Avoidance.
Indecision.
Overthinking.
People can genuinely believe they are coping while their behaviour is telling a very different story.
That applies to participants.
It applies to employees.
And it applies to the people commissioning the programmes designed to help them.
This is where Firm Ground® is different.
I look at the pressure underneath behaviour, not just the behaviour people can see.
Once the pressure is visible, the starting point for change becomes much clearer.
My Firm Ground® Methodology Makes The Invisible Visible.
It is designed around human capacity, not just capability. Someone may be capable of working, learning or progressing, but if pressure has reduced their capacity, they may struggle to use those capabilities consistently.
That is why Firm Ground® looks at the pressure underneath behaviour, disengagement and inconsistency instead of simply asking whether somebody has the skills to move forward.
Firm Ground® can be commissioned as a standalone employability intervention or delivered alongside existing provision to address the pressures and behavioural barriers that other services may not be reaching.
Employability is not only about CVs, interviews and job applications.
People can have opportunities in front of them and still struggle to engage, progress or sustain change because of the pressure they are carrying underneath.
Firm Ground® Employability Programmes focus on the behavioural and emotional barriers that can affect confidence, motivation, communication, decision-making and readiness for work.
Because getting someone into employment is one thing.
Helping them function, progress and stay there is another.
Behaviour Is Often the Visible Outcome
Low confidence.
Avoidance.
Poor communication.
Reduced motivation.
Disengagement.
Difficulty making decisions.
Starting opportunities and not sustaining them.
These can look like employability problems.
But quite often they are the visible outcome of pressure underneath.
Firm Ground® helps participants identify the pressures influencing behaviour, strengthen self-management and build the capacity to move forward more consistently.
Removing Barriers to Employment
People do not always need more information.
Sometimes they need the pressure reduced enough to use the information they already have.
Firm Ground® employability interventions can help address:
-
Low confidence and self-belief
-
Reduced motivation
-
Avoidance and disengagement
-
Difficulty communicating under pressure
-
Poor decision-making
-
Emotional overwhelm
-
Difficulty sustaining progress
-
Fear of failure or rejection
-
Personal pressures affecting participation
-
Low readiness for work, learning or progression
The focus is practical.
Find the pressure.
Address what is getting in the way.
Build capacity.
Move forward.
Employability Readiness
Being technically capable of working does not always mean someone feels ready to work.
Pressure can affect the way people think, communicate, respond to challenge and handle uncertainty.
Firm Ground® works on the behavioural side of employability readiness, including:
-
Confidence
-
Communication
-
Self-management
-
Decision-making
-
Emotional regulation
-
Resilience under pressure
-
Behavioural consistency
-
Readiness for learning and work
The aim is not simply to help somebody perform well in an appointment.
It is to help them function more effectively when real-life pressure appears.
Sustainable Progression, Not Short-Term Participation
A participant attending a programme is not the outcome.
Progression is.
Depending on the programme, outcomes may include:
-
Increased confidence
-
Improved communication
-
Greater engagement
-
Reduced avoidance
-
Improved self-advocacy
-
Stronger decision-making
-
Increased behavioural consistency under pressure
-
Progression towards education, training, volunteering or employment
-
Employment starts
-
Increased employability
-
Improved ability to sustain progress
Participation matters.
But what happens afterwards matters more.

Working Alongside Existing Employability Provision
Firm Ground® does not need to replace existing employability services.
It can sit alongside them.
Where another provider is already delivering CV support, job search, training or practical employment activity, Firm Ground® can address the personal barriers preventing somebody from engaging with or sustaining progress through those opportunities.
That means existing provision has a better chance of working.
Commission Firm Ground® Employability Programmes
Firm Ground® provides behaviour transformation and employability interventions designed to reduce barriers to progression and strengthen readiness for sustainable employment.
Programmes can be commissioned by councils, employability providers, education organisations and other organisations working with people who are struggling to move forward.

Employability Does Not Stop When Someone Starts Work
My employability work does not stop when somebody gets the job, starts education or moves into training.
That is often when a completely new set of pressures begins.
New people.
New routines.
New expectations.
Punctuality.
Performance.
Travel.
Different personalities.
Different communication styles.
A five-minute conversation with the wrong person can be enough to zap somebody’s capacity for the rest of the day.
The purpose is to help them navigate pressure while they are actually living it and feeling it, during the point where routines, expectations and relationships are still new.
It is not indefinite support.
It is a structured bridge between starting and settling.
The aim is not only to help somebody get there.
It is to help them navigate the pressure that comes with staying, adjusting and progressing.
Ready to Strengthen Employability Outcomes?
If people are entering employment, education or training but struggling to sustain progress, the answer may not be another employability workshop.
It may be the pressure underneath.
Firm Ground® programmes are designed to identify those barriers, strengthen capacity and help people navigate the transition into work, education or training more successfully.
Talk to me about an employability programme built around the pressures your participants are actually facing.
Commission Firm Ground® Employability
Firm Ground® Employability for Employers
Firm Ground® Employability programmes are also available to employers.
Managers and organisations have a duty of care towards their staff. But expecting managers to carry everybody else’s stress, personal difficulties and emotional load on top of their own pressures is, in reality, too much to ask.
And it should not become their burden to carry.
That is where Firm Ground® can take some of the load.
The programme gives employees somewhere to address the pressures affecting how they are functioning at work, rather than leaving managers to repeatedly deal with the visible consequences.
That may include:
-
Repeated sickness absence
-
Mental-health-related absence
-
Reduced capacity
-
Disengagement
-
Difficulty coping with workplace pressure
-
Conflict or communication breakdown
-
Repeated overwhelm
-
Difficulty sustaining attendance or performance
Managers already have their own pressures. They should not also be expected to carry the emotional and behavioural consequences of everybody else’s.
Firm Ground® takes some of that pressure away from managers by giving employees somewhere to address what is affecting their capacity, attendance, behaviour and performance directly.
It stops managers becoming the shock absorbers for everyone else’s problems and emotions until they are completely depleted and have nothing left for themselves.
Firm Ground® can be commissioned as a targeted intervention for individual employees or built into a wider workforce programme.
Employability That Goes Further
Whether someone is trying to get into work, settle into a new role or stay in employment when pressure starts affecting their capacity, Firm Ground® focuses on what is getting in the way.
For commissioners, that means stronger progression.
For employers, it means less pressure being pushed back onto managers.
For individuals, it means having somewhere to deal with pressure before it becomes another reason to walk away.
